Designing for human dignity and the welcome of others

For more than 85 years, Global Refuge has provided the resources, guidance, and community to help forge a way forward for New Americans. Their value for human dignity serves legal immigrants, refugees, and those seeking asylum. While Senior Art Director at Vitamin, I designed the UX/UI for the new site from user journeys to design. We partnered with Legend Lab who had recently redesigned the Global Refuge brand to ensure our design aligned with their new guidelines. They had conducted exhaustive research on the drivers for continued support and donations while defining the messaging. The results showed that individual stories and videos were the most impactful in choosing to get involved. The site was therefore designed to give ample presence for stories via inline story components and a “Stories” section under Impact. The motivational direction leans on emotional photography from real families they served, not before their journey, but after. To focus on their joy in their new life here. Global Refuge’s new brand messaging was designed to focus on the positive impact on lives already achieved rather than those suffering in crisis.
